Taking PKI to the Next Level This presentation will cover use cases and challenges around PKI based on field experience. As of today, PKI is the only unbreakable authentication mechanism but achieving the 100% guarantee that the entity you are talking to is really who it claims to be is beyond the technology alone. How to establish and maintain this trust? We will show areas where PKI can be used to achieve 360° security and highlight existing standards and technologies to achieve it today: network, desktop, applications, transactions, data. We will also present the need for strong private key protection and its workaround: the smart cards / tokens along with challenges (lifecycle management) and benefits (convergence, roaming, improved security, helpdesk call reduction, and user acceptance) that come with those security devices. And finally we will present how to leverage PKI to do more than strong authentication: document and email encryption, digital signature. We will cover specifics of those two implementations (key recovery, regulations, fud, standards) and describe long term signature as a forensic proof. The presentation will also cover two customer cases: Renault-Nissan: how to deploy 100 000 tokens worldwide Pixid: how implementing digital signature in sourcing reduced contract signature from weeks to days.
